What should I expect to pay for a website? It's a question I get asked all the time, and I wish that I had an easy answer.
Some companies will advertise websites for $500. A nephew or brother-in-law has a copy of Dreamweaver and says that he can do it next weekend for a 12-pack. Plenty of companies offer ala-carte pricing options for everything you'd expect a website to have: dynamic navigation, contact forms, search, SEO, social media integration .. etc.
The web design industry doesn't have any rules about price. Therefore, here are some guidelines that we suggest when budgeting for your new website or web application:
Logo Design ............................ $2,000 - $5,000 *
Simple site ................................ $5,000 - $15,000 **
Ecommerce site ........................ $10,000 - $30,000
Custom web application ........... $15,000 - $100,000
* Or more, depends on the number of initial concepts and the number of revisions.
** A little clarification - in our opinion, a “simple site” is one that has 4-6 main navigation elements, a dynamic sub-navigation, mostly “static” content (even though it’s managed by a Content Management System), a couple of forms for information capture and at least one listing/detail section (blog, press releases, news/events).
